Leigh Clarke - Getting Plenty

Earlier this year, Margate’s beloved Beacon Bingo Hall closed its doors for the last time. Despite a dedicated legion of regular “Beaconites”, the venue suffered significant financial losses and was forced to cease trading after over 30 years. Its final day was marked with no particular fanfare, just a simple game of bingo.

Tickets discarded by mourning players after this final game inspired local artist Leigh Clark to create these two prints; each featuring tickets that are only one, tantalisingly close number away from winning, simulating the hopefulness of a bingo player, perpetually waiting to win.

Only 15 of each of these prints exist, and they’re exclusively available to purchase at Turner Contemporary.
